Barry Martin uses his vast life experiences and observations of the human race to create some of the funniest (and in most cases realistic) comedy either side of the Mississippi. His unique brand of "down home humor" combines standup comedy and song parodies resulting in a comprehensive and entertaining one man show. As a former schoolteacher and a top sales executive, Barry had been "leavin em laughin" for years, which is why he decided to concentrate his talents on the comedy stage, where he felt it would be most appreciated.

His decision proved to be a good one, as he has consequently enjoyed overwhelming success. His face is now a familiar one due in part to his repeat appearances on many popular television shows. These have included "Evening at the Improv" and "Comedy on the Road" on the A&E Network; "Nashville Now," "Crook & Chase," "Music City Tonight" and numerous other shows on the Nashville Network and on The Comedy Channel. Barry has also been featured in issues of Country America magazine, and was a winner in the Johnny Walker Comedy Search. His original music and humor can be heard on a regular basis on the Bob & Tom syndicated radio show. As Tom says: "Barry Martin is a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-rollbut mostly hes a delightful comedian with a mature, old-fashioned charm."
The Chicago Tribune refers to him as "A modern day Andy Griffith," while Lorianne Crook of the "Crook & Chase" show simply states, "One of our favoritesBarry brought the house down."
Barry is also receiving notoriety from his many live performances. He has headlined major comedy clubs nationwide, and is a favorite at some of the most prestigious chains, including Catch a Rising Star, The Laugh Factory, Zanies, The Improv, The Funny Bone and The Funny Farm.
Currently, Barry is on tour with Mercury Nashville recording artist and rising star Rodney Carrington. Other performances include working with many top recording and touring artists. He has received accolades as an opening act for such luminaries as Tanya Tucker, Paula Poundstone, Ray Stevens, Chubby Checker and The Desert Rose Band, among others.. Barry was a featured act and celebrity participant at the Kenny Stabler Celebrity Golf Tournament in Mobile, AL, where his performances were rewarded with several standing ovations and several invitations to other tournaments. "I think the biggest complement anyone could ever receive is being recognized by one's peers." "Of course," as Barry jokingly says, "I don't mind having to play golf either, as it is second only to my passion for performing. I'm not as good at golf, but I'm funnier than Tiger Woods!" Between appearances in comedy clubs, at golf tournaments, and touring with major artists, Barry keeps a healthy schedule of appearances for major corporations and colleges across the nation. Because of his background in business, Barry can relate his humor successfully to the corporate world. Some of his appearances include shows for Merrill Lynch, Peat Marwick, The Illinois Bankers Association, National Association of Postmasters, Illinois Press Association, Kal Kan Foods and many more.
Additionally, Barry's experiences as a teacher make him a perfect choice for relating humor to educational institutions. Among others, he has performed for Southern Illinois University, Southeast Missouri State, Montana State University, and the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. "I really love the youth of this country, and as a teacher I always related well to my students." says Barry. "Needless to say, they just laughed at me!" Music plays a big part in Barry's life as well. In fact, he incorporates much of it in his show. An accomplished songwriter, he has lent his own brand of lyrics to several well known country songs, as well as penning some hilarious new ones. So far, at least one of these recordings has resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise sales when he performed it live on The Nashville Network. And, at this point, Barry's career in comedy shows no signs of slowing down. As he states, "I think I was always meant to do this - it feels like I am finally where I should be. I mean, if I am supposed to be a motivational speaker or something else, it's not working, because people are laughing at everything I say! But, I really love my job, and how many people can say that?"
