A smash at Viva Las Vegas (VLV) 2013, Maureen & the Mercury 5 was named among the top 20 bands of 70 appearing, with their music featured on the VLV compilation CD. M&M 5 draws its sound from late 50's and early 60's, notably inspired by rockabilly greats like The Stray Cats, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and inimitable subrettes Dusty Springfield, Ann Margret, Amy Winehouse and even Chrissy Hynde.The original sound, however, is created by M&M 5’s all-star lineup: bassist Steve Whalen (Gluey Brothers), who has played with Maureen since 2007 in the alt-country band, The Flutterbies; Scott McLean (Seatbelt) growling on Gretsch; Disney-favorite drummer Tommy Goddard; and saxophonist/rhythm guitarist Sylvain Carton (Beats Antique, Japonais Elephants). The band entertains thousands as resident artists (through 2016!) at Downtown Disneyland and at the historical Queen Mary in Long Beach. A favorite of the Lindy Hop crowd, they also play favorite dance halls include Joe's in Burbank, Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association and the like. M&M 5 takes you back to steamy Ann Margret & Elvis movies, James Dean races and rowdy nights at the drive-in. This music might just make you drive too fast, dance all night and beg for more.
