Since Emo Philips started doing stand-up comedy back in Chicago in 1976, his unique style and brilliant material (Jay Leno, on the Howard Stern Show; called him the best joke writer in America) have made Emo famous not just in the United States, but in Britain and Canada as well.
Emo received his first big break on the Late Show with David Letterman in 1984, and has been back on many times since. He was also a frequent guest on the Arsenio Hall Show, and in fact, had been the only person to ever co-host with Arsenio. Emo's acting roles include playing a crooked game show contestant (in cahoots with Phil Collins) on "Miami Vice," and a butter-fingered table saw operator in "Weird Al" Yankovic's hit comedy film, UHF. Emo's cable specials include the half-hour Cinemax show "Comedy Experiment," a half-hour Showtime Special, and an hour-long concert on HBO (available at video stores nationwide). Emo has two hit comedy albums under his belt, the first of which E=MO2, won the New Music Award for Best Comedy Album of 1985.
Emo is just as big in Britain as he is in America. He was the hit of the Edinburgh Festival, and the next spring, he enjoyed a successful run at the Playhouse Theatre in London's West End, followed by a sold-out twelve city British tour. His British television credits include "Friday Live, Saturday Live," his own Channel Four concert special, and just about every important chat show there is; including: Bob Monkhouse, Jonathon Ross, Terry Wogan, and Clive Anderson. Emo also scripted and starred in three 45 second television adverts for Sony.
Emo currently divides his time between Britain and North America, writing jokes, screenplays, and performing in clubs, colleges and concert halls.
