The first line-up became: Don Letts, Dan Donavan, Mick Jones, Greg Roberts and Leo Williams. Flea (from the record sleeves) was working with Kirk Brandon at the time Mick was producing Theatre of Hate, which was how they met. When Mick started BAD in 1984 he called flea to come and work with him. That's Dynamite! 1985 The first single is released, "The bottom Line". The single "E=mc2" is released shortly afterwards with the lyrics based on the films by Nic Roeg. Generally credited as the first rock hit to use sample techniques. The album "This is Big Audio Dynamite" is released at the same time as The Clash releases "Cut The Crap". While Strummer and Simonon sang "We are The Clash" Mick Jones just claimed that "This is Big Audio Dynamite". 1986 Second album: No. 10 Upping Street. Album is co-written and produced by the former Clash collegue Joe Strummer. First single to be released from the album is "C'mon Every Beatbox". 1987 Tour in Britain, Europe, America and Brazil. June '87 tour with U2 and arena dates with Eurythmics in Europe. "Planet BAD"=travelling night club at various venues where the band DJs. The first idea for Maximum? 1988 In July the third album "Tighten Up Volume '88" is released. Features cover painting by fellow Clash compadre Paul Simonon. 1989 In September "Megatop Phoenix" (known to many as the "E" album) is released. The band records the song "Free" for the movie Flashback. This is the final recording by the original line-up. 1990 The first line-up split up. Letts, Williams & Roberts forms the group "Screaming Target" and they release their first and only album. Mick Jones forms BAD II. The new members are Nick Hawkins (guitar), Gary Stonadge (bass) and Chris Kavanagh. Andr� Shapps starts working (roadie-ing aside!) with the band and co-producing with Mick. UK tour in a "Ravestyle", the band would DJ and play live all night. Live gigs at Alexandra Palace in London and Paradisio in Amsterdam is recorded and released as a "Legal bootleg"under the name "Ally Pally Paradiso". Limited Edition album with eight tracks, Kool-Aid, is released in the UK. 1991 The Globe album is released, featuring cover art by Shawn St�ssy. The album goes gold in America. The single "Rush" is named #1 Modern Rock Single for 1991 by Billboard. Micky Custance startes DJing with the band (as one of 3 three DJ's originally, though there were others before), playing before, after and between songs in about Spring 1991. By Autumn 1991 he was the only DJ left and had started spinning during the songs as an actual band member. 1992 The video collection "BAD I and BAD II" is released. BAD II headlines MTV's 120 minutes Tour with Public Image Ltd, Live and Blind Melon. Succesful road shows culminates in three sold-out dates at the Ritz in Manhattan. Australian Tour. Tour in North America with U2 and Public Enemy. 1993 Andr� Shapps finally joins the band as a full member in the summer. The Lost Treasures of Big Audio Dynamite I & II, a collection of remixes is released in Japan and Australia. BAD II tours around the world with U2. 1994 BAD II shortens their name to Big Audio. They release the album "Higher Power ". 1995 A new album on a new label, now under the original name Big Audio Dynamite. The album "F-Punk" is released on the Radioctive Records label in June. 1996 Joe Attard, Ranking Roger, Bob Wond and Darryl Fulstow enter the band and they start working on what would be the new album "Entering a New Ride". 1997 They start up the club Maximum with Micky and Joe as DJ's, Andr� Shapps on keyboards/samples and Mick Jones as MC under the name "The Big Audio Dynamite Soundsystem". 1998 The BAD Soundsystem plays gigs in Sweden, Spain and Britain. They do remixes for various artists and builds up a new studio. 1999 The website www.bad.co.uk is released. The monthly club Maximum continues, now at Fluid.
