The leaders of Gov't Mule, Warren Haynes and Allen Woody, should be well-known to Allman Brothers fans for their stint in Southern rock's most famous native sons. In 1989, Haynes became the second replacement for Duane Allman, providing a good foil for Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts on guitar and vocals; Woody filled out the Allman sound on bass. Five years after their debut, the duo joined drummer Matt Abts in the side project Gov't Mule, a band in which the Allman Brothers' influence is apparent but complicated with the psychedelic, bluesy power-trio feel of Cream. Gov't Mule debuted in 1995 with a self-titled album on Capricorn Records, followed by the stellar concert date Live at Roseland Ballroom. The studio follow-up Dose appeared in early 1998; another concert set, Live...with a Little Help from Our Friends, followed a year later.

Moonlighting, with various bands, in area clubs drew the attention of former Nashville resident Dicky Betts, who asked Johnny to join his road band, and begin work on Dickey's solo LP for Epic Records. That relationship led to seven cuts on the "Pattern Disruptive" LP including the Top 10 AOR hit, "Rock Bottom." Johnny's stellar keyboard and harp playing on that album caused Greg Allman to "borrow" Johnny, when available, for his own touring road band.
All of the aforementioned naturally led to Johnny joining the eventually reunited Allman Brothers Band. A massively successful tour followed, culminating in a number one AOR smash hit during the summer of 1990. Car radios all across America blasted "Good Clean Fun", co-written by Johnny with Gregg and Dickey, to the top of the charts, and provided the reunited Allmans with their highest charting single since "Ramblin' Man" fifteen years earlier.
Johnny was also Grammy nominated for his keyboard work as an Allman Brothers Band member on the instrumental cut, 'True Gravity" from the "Seven Turns" LP.
Marc Ford was born April 13, 1966 in Long Beach, CA. His primary musical influences were Jimi Hendrix and Steveie Ray Vaughn. He joined The Black Crowes as lead guitarist in 1992, recording "The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion," "Amorica," and "Three Snakes & One Charm," and touring constantly with the band until departing in August of 1997.
