TIME OUT 2002 AWARD WINNER: BEST STAND -UP
ROYAL TELEVISION SOCIETY 2003 AWARD WINNER: BEST ON-SCREEN NEWCOMER
After an incredible 4-week run at the Edinburgh Festival 2002 culminating in Jimmy's nomination for the prestigious Perrier Award, Jimmy's profile has reached new heights. He bought his nominated show: "Jimmy Carr's Bare Faced Ambition" (a shameless exposé of his pursuit of fame and fortune) to Her Majesty's Theatre last October and the Soho Theatre in December. This year Jimmy is back at the Festival with a new show which he will be previewing in June and July.
The brightest British comic hope for a long, long while…The most deliciously transgressive comic…He is not so much pushing out the boundaries as sailing in uncharted waters…Superb. Irish Times
I laughed more than at any other Festival show. Alex O'Connell - The Times
Americans such as Emo Phillips and Steven Wright have turned this style into an art form. Carr is this country's finest practitioner. Evening Standard
Best New Gagsmith. The Guardian
Very funny if I may say. Very good dead-pannery. HRH Prince of Wales (at the Royal Variety Show 2002)
Jimmy is currently co-hosting the second 25 part series of Your Face Or Mine with T4's June Sarpong, which can be seen on weekdays on Channel 4, following the first 20 part series on T4. Jimmy's recent hosting of 100 Worst Britons on Channel 4, his guest appearance on Have I Got News For You (BBC2, May 03), his widely acclaimed performances on The Royal Variety Show (BBC1, Dec 02) and Peter Cook: A Posthumourous Tribute (BBC2, Dec 02) all confirm his status as one of Britain's future TV stars. Jimmy can also be heard on XFM on Sunday mornings where he co-presents the show from 10.00am to 12.00. Other TV credits include Jimmy Carr's World of Corporate Videos (C4), The 11'O Clock Show (C4), Drunk Review (E4), Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC2) and Liquid News (BBC3). Jimmy is also a regular guest and interviewer on Loose Ends (R4) and The Fred McCauley Show (BBC Radio Scotland). Jimmy is a prolific writer as well as performer, and his writing credits include Bo Selecta! (BBC2) and The 11 O'Clock Show (C4) as well as shows for Ricky Gervais, Lily Savage and Frank Skinner.
Witty, surprising, different, and clearly a new onscreen presenter for the future. Kirsty Young, Presenter, RTS Awards 2003.
Utterly hypnotic to watch; a star in the making. Daily Telegraph.
A popular headlining stand-up at the top clubs across the country such as The Comedy Store, Comedy Café, Jongleurs, Up The Creek and The Glee Club to name but a few, Jimmy's talents have also spread to Comedy Festivals across the world. From Holland and Belgium to Ireland (Kilkenny Cat Laughs) and South Africa (Smirnoff Cape Town Festival), Jimmy's material and style has delighted a wide range of audiences.
Jimmy's career in America is flourishing: he has performed twice on Late Night with Conan O'Brien (NBC) and recently on Tonight with Jay Leno (NBC). He was also one of the few top British comedians selected to appear at the world's two top Comedy Festivals: Montreal "Just For Laughs" in July 2002 and the Aspen Comedy Arts Festival in February 2003. He has been invited back to both Tonight with Jay Leno and the Montreal "Just For Laughs" festival this summer.
More from the press…..
What Carr lacks in presentation and performance is probably not worth having- Evening Standard
Delicious and seamless - The Stage
With a bemused appearance, Carr simply didn't have a duff gag in a brilliantly witty set. His quick-fire in-and-out mutters kept the audience eager and he showed he has real talent for greater things. The Stage
I haven't come across quick fire writing as sharp as this since hearing Michael Redmond in the early 1990's. He comes across as some distant, inbred aristocratic cousin of Morrissey. The Scotsman
Master of the dramatic…pause Daily Express
The highlight of the international show was the obscenely odd Jimmy Carr. He delivers a kind of one-liner chant, punctuated by goblin-like facial gymnastics. He's needle sharp and highly original - make sure you see him. Cape Times, South Africa
Deadpan one-liner King Jimmy Carr & A bizarre little gem Evening Standard
