Scott LaRose

Scott LaRose has made a mark in the world of film, television and comedy. He is nationally acknowledged as one of the funniest guys out there with an unlimited source of characters, comic bits, and voices. Furthermore his reputation as an actor is gaining momentum with each role he plays.

Recent guest-starring appearances include episodes of Seinfeld as Elaine's love interest; Dave's World as a stripper/clown; Ellen as a slick successful photographer; Daddy's Girl as a crass, uncouth date for Dudley Moore's daughter; Melrose Place (two episodes) as the big shot boss of Andrew Shue; The Second Half as a hyped-up sports announcer; Northern Exposure as a friend of Rob Morrow; Doogie Howser, M.D. as a computer hacking genius; and LA Law as a zany television weatherman opposite Jill Eikenberry.

Scott is probably most recognized for his over 150 national television commercials. New York Magazine predicted his First in Line series of McDonald's commercials are "destined to outshine whatever entertainment they interrupt." Scott has also done hundreds of radio commercials, voice-over cartoons, and ad campaigns.

Last season after seeing him all over the "tube" the producers of Entertainment Tonight sought out LaRose for an extended feature, introducing him to the nation. John Tesh called him the next Tim Allen, Roseanne, or Seinfeld; and Warren Littlefield, the president of NBC, was blatantly smitten as he and Scott chatted.

A recent comedy tour of the UK made Scott a hit with the "Brits." The BBC national and local affiliates were competing for his time on the air. The London Herald called him "brilliant," and "very quick, very observant, and very witty … a master of visual gaggery, slow motion, and fast forward moves. More of an actor than a standup." Scott's fans describe his style as "high energy," "truthful," "on the edge," "no holds barred." He says, "I always believe in writing new material, always taking a risk."

In the world of comedy Scott LaRose has carved a niche that may emulate but few can follow. In Los Angeles, he's on the "favorites" list of club owners Jamie Masada (The Laugh Factory) and Bud Friedman (The Improv) where he headlines regularly. He's graced the stages of The Arsenio Hall Show, Comic Strip Live (7 times), Evening at the Improv (6 times), VH-1 Standup Spotlight, Caroline's Comedy Hour, and The Sunday Comics. He has guest hosted MTV's Half Hour Comedy Hour (4 shows) and starred in The Best of Evening at the Improv. Scott has just completed two half hour specials, "Full Frontal Comedy" for Showtime and "Comics That Kill" for Comedy Central.

"You have to keep doing what you believe and not worry about those who don't like it. Or as I say in my act, 'acknowledge and move on.'" He is proud of his film roles, Desert Steel, an action picture with David Naughton and The Unsinkable Shecky with Adam Sandler.

Other television guest starring appearances include Civil Wars (with Pete Onoratt), The Edge (with Julie Brown), Family Ties (with Michael J. Fox), In Living Color, Sunset Beat, Out of This World, Dallas (with Patrick Duffy) and Thirtysomething (with Melanie Mayron).

Among his favorite television work was his series regular position on Into the Night (ABC) and Tim Conway's Funny America (ABC, directed by Henry Winkler) where he was able to continually invent new characters, improvise, and be involved in the creative process.

A native of Rhode Island, Scott LaRose pulled himself from working class roots and headed to New York where he studied at the prestigious New York University under Olympia Dukakis amongst others. He impressed the university staff and soon won starring roles in campus productions and eventually went on to receive the renowned Irene Ryan award.

Scott LaRose supported himself while in school by managing a video store. "It was actually my job to give reviews of adult films. People would ask, 'What's this one about?' I'd say …'oh about 90 minutes too long.'" It was here that he was discovered by a customer, one of the talent coordinators from Catch a Rising Star. She ended up in hysterics from Scott's spontaneous repartee and booked him immediately. After only six months of standup, he was able to quit his day job.

He is a walking encyclopedia of movie history and trivia and has aspirations to direct. As a kid, he made films with a Super 8 camera he bought with his paper route money. One film starred a shopping cart that came to life and killed people by mowing them down.

He is a horror movie fan and has a collection of monsters, toys, memorabilia and models that could rival any. He even bought the infamous Freddy Kruger glove at an auction. It is proudly displayed in his living room next to his full size Creature from the Black Lagoon.

In his spare time, he attends auctions, toy conventions, concerts, and movies, reads books and plays basketball with local comedians in a court he had built in his backyard (which is affectionately dubbed "La Rose-Arena).

His personal philosophy is "Always live in the moment and be truthful … and never stop trying to get better at what you do."
