Robin Williams, comedian, TV, movie star, comedy recording artist, theater star, was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1951. He spent much of his childhood playing with his 2,000 toy soldiers.
He grew up in Marin County, California where his senior year high school classmates voted him "Most Humorous" and "Most Likely to Succeed." Boy were they right! Robin originally studied political science but then studied theater in California and later at the prestigious Julliard School in New York City.
Although known chiefly for his unique ability to make people laugh in comedy films including: The Birdcage, Mrs. Doubtfire, Popeye, Good Morning Vietnam, Hook, Toys, Aladdin, Father's Day. Robin has also starred in some very serious dramatic film roles such as in Hamlet, Dead Poets Society, The World According to Garp.
He has won Academy Award nominations, received several Golden Globe Awards, has won four Grammy Awards (for his comedy recordings), Emmy Awards for TV, and many other awards and honors.
Anyone who has ever watched Robin Williams knows of his great talent. His first job was that of a street mime. Some of his other major talents are impersonation, doing strange weird voices and sounds, and improvisation. Robin is one of the most brilliant comedians of our time and has devoted much of his energy doing work for charities such as for "Comic Relief," an annual benefit to aid the homeless, broadcast on HBO.
Robin is married to Marsha Garces and has three children named: Zachary, Zelda, and Cody Alan.
Robin stared in Walt Disney Pictures FLUBBER. The movie is a comedy filled with laughter, thrills, hilarity, and fabulous special effects. The story about scientific discoveries is filled with fantastic, visually exciting and unpredictable action. It lets your imagination run wild and is a lot of fun. You even have a '63 T-Bird car flying in the clouds!
The movie was a real challenge to make because the "Flubber" goo substance actually had to be invented through digital technology and animated by a very complex process to make it look like it really works. Flubber is supposed to be this amazing compound that can morph into anything. The substance responds to rhythm and sound, it has capacities of splitting into different things, transforming, assuming shapes, expanding, exploding, and reacting all over the place.
Robin's next role, in the Miramax motion picture GOOD WILL HUNTING, had him playing a college professor-turned-therapist with an admiration for the emotional struggles of Will Hunting (played by Matt Damon star of Courage Under Fire and The Rainmaker). For this he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Robin then starred in Vincent Ward's amazingly visual film ' What Dreams May Come', the story of a man killed in an automobile accident who searches for his wife in the afterlife. He has finished shooting 'Jakob the Liar' about the story of a man who shelters a small girl in Nazi Germany.
