She has appeared on Dick Clark's "American Bandstand", Don Kirshner's "Rock Concert", "Soul Train", "The Midnight Special", and countless talk shows and newsmagazines.
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Dorothy was raised on Monument Street by her great-great-grandmother. Since then, Dorothy has raised her son and daughter in Jackson because as she says, "It's really just a great place." She got her start in the music industry by participating in talent shows around town. Success in those talent shows led Dorothy to seriously pursue a career as an entertainer. Upon graduating from Lanier High School, Dorothy attended Jackson State where she formed a group called "The Poppies". Their single, "Lullaby Of Love" on Epic Records made the top 40 charts in 1966.
She then moved to various record labels: Avco, GSF, and Chimneyville before she united and found a home with Malaco Records in 1975. While at Malaco, she recorded a song titled "Misty Blue". This song sold over 2 million copies, was one of the years-largest international break-through hits, and earned her two Grammy Nominations. It topped the charts in the U. S., Canada, and the United Kingdom. The next two years brought Dorothy Moore four additional chart topping records "I Believe You", "Funny How Time Slips Away", "With Pen In Hand", and the disco oriented "Let The Music Play".
Dorothy has been with Malaco for over 20 years. She says of Malaco, "I'm proof that you don't have to go off to Hollywood or New York to have a career. You can do it right here. I wake up at home, drive right over here, and record. No plane rides to put in a day's work at the studio, no faceless hotels, just home."
Dorothy took some time off from recording then came back and recorded for Fantasy, Volt and Prelude Records from 1982-1986. In 1986, Rejoice/Word Records showcased her Gospel roots with "Keep Your Eyes On Jesus." Then she came back home to Malaco Records to continue in the field on Rhythm and Blues for several more years.
