Formerly known as Silk Threads, the Tribe renamed itself to celebrate nabbing the Championship, in 1995, at the Dever National Competition of the prestigious Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival, then went on to win Second Place in the National Finals... a feat they repeated at the 1997 competition, adding prizes for Best Arrangement and a special Judges' Award for Best Vocal Percussion to their caps!

The Tribe has appeared on regional U.S. radio and TV, including having been featured on Jerry Lewis' 1996 MDA Labor Day Telethon, and the telecasting of its MTV-style music videos of "Thank You" and "29 Ways" on selected cable channels.
