Mick Sterling
The band, born in 1988, started as an excuse to play the great songs by Tower Of Power, James Brown, Etta James, Wilson Pickett, and many others. They decided to put together a 10 piece band, with 5 horns, which at that time no one was doing. They proposed an idea to James Klein at Bunkers Music Bar And Grill in Minneapolis: give us Sunday nights! At that time, bars were either closed, or they had no music, either way, it was never proven that Sunday night was any type of night for people to see a band. Mick Sterling and The Stud Brothers proved them all wrong. Within in a year of conception, the band was having lines out the door, sometimes in the dead of a Minneapolis winter, to come and see this fresh act. It has now been 8 years, and the band is still going strong. Through all of this, Mick has proven to be strong proponent for his community, not just the musical community, but to children at home and around the country. Because of the success of the band, Mick has been able to put together benefits to raise money for St. Joseph Home for Children, the Minnesota Food Shelf, and most recently, Camp Heartland, the nations largest summer camp for children living with HIV/AIDS. His benefit, Heart & Soul has turned in to the largest fundraiser in the nation for Camp Heartland. It has included over 60 local and national bands, and has raised the awareness of Camp Heartland tremendously. With the release of his first solo CD, Nothing Less Than Everything, Mick is pushing as hard as ever. With a schedule that has included more than 200 dates a year for the past 6 years, 1997 is proving to be more of the same. He is eager to promote the new CD, and to spread outside of just the Twin Cities area, and to reach a national and international audience.
