MacKeel is currently writing for their new cd. The songs that are emerging are rock edged and are delivered with the energy that has made MacKeel so popular. MacKeel will preview this new material with upcoming audiences this spring in Ontario and the United States. It will be released in the summer of 1999 and will be followed by extensive touring.
PLAID was originally released independently and held the number one position on Sam The Record Man's indie chart in Atlantic Canada for 1996. PLAID was mixed and produced by Hayward Parrott (Chris DeBurgh) except for the standout new single "Star of the County Down", produced by Eric Ratz (Big Sugar). PLAID garnered two 1998 ECMA nominations for Group of the Year and Roots/Traditional Vocal Artist of the Year.
Road warriors, MacKeel has toured the country coast to coast over the last year, building an audience of enthusiastic fans. Glenn Gordon tells a story in each song as the lead vocalist, while Kevin Brennan's electric guitar propels the music to a stratospheric level that is evident in MacKeel's legendary high-energy performances. Award-winning electric and acoustic fiddler Fleur Mainville plays with an infectious energy and style that demands attention.
MacKeel's unique individuality combines great songs with traditional tunes and contemporary sensibilities: fiddle and bagpipes with rock guitar, bass and drums. The result is a fascinating, innovative and instantly identifiable sound that charts out some prime untapped musical territory. The members of MacKeel bring new life to the proud heritage of Maritime music. According to Randy MacDonald, the band's percussionist, "We don't want to be just another Celtic band.
