Deborah's new album M.Y.O.B. (Mind Your Own Business), was released on March 6th on her very own label Golden Egg Records. “Stylistically, it is what I, as a music fan, would want to hear. I have called the style ‘sophisti-pop’ jokingly in the studio. Melodically and production-wise, I have a foot in the traditional and a foot in the current.” M.Y.O.B. includes original material written or co-written by Deborah. For the first time in her career she has chosen to record M.Y.O.B., an original song penned by the Alessi Brothers. “A huge part of my growth process has been opening my mind to outside ideas and then putting them in the context of my vision.”
M.Y.O.B. is a sassy upbeat dance pop record with live funk, followed by the high energy of "Your Secret" the new single, and Deborah's beautiful, deeply felt signature ballads, "Down That Road" and "The One". "It represents where I’m at in my life as a thirty year old woman. I think this album takes the listener on a journey that reflects the different dynamics of people on a universal level.”
One of the songs featured on the CD is a re-make of the late seventies top ten hit from Tony Orlando and Dawn, “Knock Three Times.” The duet features Tony Orlando who scored the original hit in the 1970s. “A highlight of this project is having the opportunity to work with Tony Orlando who is a true pro and a staple in this industry. ‘Knock Three Times’ is a song I grew up playing on the piano and singing!” “I’ve been knocking for 30 years, finally someone answered,” commented Tony.
Deborah Gibson exploded on the pop music scene at the tender age of sixteen. She quickly became the youngest person ever to write, produce and perform a #1 single (“Foolish Beat”), a record which she still proudly holds to this day. Deborah has sold over 16 million albums worldwide to date. Her extraordinary career has garnered her #1 Billboard hits, Platinum albums, ASCAP Songwriter of the Year honors, sold-out audiences around the world and rave reviews for her starring roles on Broadway.
Growing up in Long Island, Deborah began performing with her sisters in Community Theatre at the age of five. At age five she also wrote her first composition. By age eight she was performing as part of the children's chorus at the Metropolitan Opera House in NYC with artists such as Placido Domingo. By the time she was twelve years old she was already a professional Broadway actress pursuing a recording career. The dream was realized by sixteen, when Deborah was signed to Atlantic Records. Her first single "Only In My Dreams" went right to the top of the charts around the world and was followed by several more top five hits and the #1 single "Foolish Beat". Her debut album "Out of the Blue" sold over five million copies. With this, Deborah established herself as a household name and immediately confirmed that position with her triple platinum follow up album "Electric Youth" and the #1 single "Lost In Your Eyes". Deborah’s recording legacy includes 1990's Gold album Anything Is Possible, 1993's Body Mind Soul, 1995's Think With Your Heart, 1997's Deborah and the newly released M.Y.O.B.
In 1992, Deborah returned to her theatrical roots by taking a star turn in the Broadway production of Les Miserables as “Eponine.” She broke box office records in the London West End production of Grease as “Sandy,” and the U.S. Broadway Tours of Grease and Funny Girl playing “Rizzo” and “Fanny Brice” respectively. Deborah returned to Broadway as “Belle” in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast followed by her critically acclaimed performance as “Gypsy Rose Lee” to Betty Buckley’s “Mama Rose” in Gypsy at the Paper Mill Playhouse. In February 2000, Deborah completed her engagement starring as “The Narrator” in the national tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Most recently Deborah completed her 3 month engagement as “Cinderella” in the national production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella to Eartha Kitt’s “Fairy Godmother”.
In addition the year 2001 finds Deborah creating her own Broadway musical, Skirts, and starring, executive producing and musical supervising on an original VH-1 movie tentatively titled Teen Queens. The movie is a dark comedy on teen exploitation and rivalry and will be a part of the VH-1 Summer original movie series.
Deborah is most proud of releasing her much anticipated new pop album M.Y.O.B., which is sure to follow in the steps of Deborah's ever expanding musical career. Deborah's fans have been anxiously awaiting her return to the pop world. With her website (www.deborah-gibson.com) up and running (over two million hits this year) and the presence of over 98,000 fan based web pages dedicated to Deborah's music and Broadway career, you can be sure the music world will not M.Y.O.B.!
