James Autry is the author of five books and a leading authority on leadership thinking. His book, Love and Profit: The Art of Caring Leadership, won the prestigious Johnson, Smith & Knisely Award. Autry received considerable national attention when he was featured on Bill Moyer's special series, "The Power of the Word," on PBS. Before taking early retirement in 1991 to pursue his present career, Autry had a distinguished career at Meredith Corporation, the publisher of Better Home and Gardens, where he was the senior vice president and president of its Magazine Group, a $500 million operation with over 900 employees. Today he holds the Dean Helen LeBaron Hilton Chair in Leadership, is involved in many civic and charitable groups, and is a popular speaker on leadership.
