Raised in a housing project in Queens, Larry Mungin spent his childhood winning academic prizes and staying out of trouble. He earned two degrees from Harvard University and scored his dream job at a Washington, D.C. law firm. Two years later, however, he sued the firm for race discrimination in a fiery case that went to trial and spiraled into an astonishing, explosive heart-rending twist. The Good Black, written by Mungin's roommate at Harvard Law School, takes a first-hand look at what went wrong with Mungin's life, who was to blame for the end of his dream of a corporate law career, and how Mungin was treated at school. It explains how, after looking away from racial inequality and hostility for so many years, Mungin began to see it everywhere at a law firm that prided itself on being liberal. Mungin's story captures the ambiguity, frustration and pain that characterize relationships across the race line today. His legal struggle is a vehicle for explaining the resentment between the races in the 1990s.
