Max Armstrong is one of America's best known and most widely followed agricultural journalists. For more than twenty years, his broadcasts have provided vital information to the farmers and ranchers of the midwest and the nation.
A graduate of Purdue University, Max's farming roots can be traced to his family's grain and livestock operation near the Wabash River in Southern Indiana. It was also in that region where Max began his radio career. Working part-time during high school and college at radio stations in Illinois and Indiana, Max developed his characteristic style now so identifiable by the thousands who hear him each day.
After managing the broadcast relations at the Illinois Farm Bureau for more than two years, Max joined veteran farm broadcaster Orion Samuelson at the Tribune Company in 1977. Since then, the two have worked side by side and are a staple in the lives of the men and women who produce America's food and fiber. Max and Orion provide midwest listeners with up to the minute agricultural information on the Agri-Voice network.
Max is the host of his own daily syndicated radio show, Farming America, heard on radio stations across the country. His show goes behind the headlines to tell more of the newsmaker's story. In addition, he is the co-host of the national television show, U.S. Farm Report. Max's role in the only major market broadcast farm department in America has provided him a unique insight into the international agricultural industry and the consumers it serves.
Max has been honored for excellence in reporting by numerous agricultural organizations. His television and radio broadcasts on farm safety have earned him the coveted Oscar in Agriculture Award. He also has been named Ag Communicator of the Year by the National AgriMarketing Association (NAMA), and was presented a Master Writer Award by the American Agriculture Editors' Association.
Max contributes to the welfare of his community, by serving as a fire department commissioner in Chicago's western suburbs, where he resides with his wife and two daughters.
