Phyllis George came into the national spotlight when she was crowned the 50th Miss America. She then made her mark in broadcasting, first as co-host of Candid Camera, then as the first female sportscaster in America, co-anchoring the Emmy Award-winning NFL Today Show on CBS from 1975 to 1984. In 1985, she became co-anchor of the CBS Morning News broadcast. In 1986, she started her own business-Chicken By George, now a division of Hormel Foods.
