Roman Gabriel

Roman Gabriel is one of the most renown athletes ever to come out of the state of North Carolina. He started his sports career in Wilmington, NC where he was an all-state performer at New Hanover High if football, basketball, and baseball.

Gabriel accepted a scholarship to attend North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. As the Wolfpack quarterback he was a two-time all-American as well as a Scholastic all-American. He also received the Louis Teague Award, an award given annually to the Carolinas' Most Outstanding Amateur Athlete. He has been voted to the Wolfpack's all-time team, and the fans selected him as the Top North Carolina State Player of all-time.

After his college playing days ended, Gabriel went on to a stellar 16 year career in the National Football League with both the Los Angeles Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles. While in the NFL, he was named an all-Pro four times and in 1969 he was named the NFL Most Valuable Player and Pro Bowl MVP. He was named the Los Angeles Rams Team Most Valuable Player on three different occasions. As a member of the Philadelphia Eagles he was named the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year and chosen as the Man of the Year in the city of Philadelphia in 1973, 1974, and 1975. The success of his playing days landed him in the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame as well as the National Collegiate Football Hall of Fame.

Gabriel currently operates the Roman Gabriel Sports Connection, while spending his free time as the color analyst on WBT Radio for the NFL's Carolina Panthers. He serves on the Advisory Board of the NFL QB Legends, the North Carolina Senior GAmes, the North Carolina National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame chapter, the Charlotte Touchdown Club, and as the Commissioner of the Gridiron Greats Golf Tour.

Gabriel has also kept busy away from the sports world promoting and raising funds for Hospice, the North Carolina Vietnam Veteran's Association, the handicapped, youth organizations, scholarships, and the senior citizens in the Carolinas and in Arizona.
