Sue Buchanan
Beyond her claim to fame as a true Survivor, Sue Buchanan's self-proclaimed spiritual gift is exaggeration. Her flamboyant sense of style (which sometimes includes a colorful feather boa) is as much a part of her persona as her tell-it-like-it-is delivery. Outrageous and overstated? Perhaps. But don't let that dumb-blond act fool you. Sue is also a savvy businesswoman. Prior to her "second life" as a writer and speaker, she served as vice president of Dynamic Media, Inc., a company specializing in computer authoring, video production and corporate meeting planning. Clients included several Fortune 500 companies. Sue has co-authored two best-selling children's books, I Love You This Much (with Lynn Hodges) and Mud Pie Annie (with daughter Dana Shafer). Mud Pie Annie won a silver award from Excellence in Media scoring among the highest marks as an outstanding work with moral, ethical and social impact. I Love You This Much was chosen for the Children's Choice Award, (sponsored by the International Reading Association) and was among the finalists for the Gold Medallion competition of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Sue also wrote Duh-Votions, a book of poignant—yet witty—devotional readings; A Party Begins in the Heart, which features stories from the lives of her famous—and infamous—friends; and Friends Through Thick & Thin and Confessions of Four Friends Through Thick and Thin, co-authored with Peggy Benson, Gloria Gaither, and Joy Mackenzie. The most recent products from Sue include a journal and a greeting card line from Lawson-Falle's Voices of Faith line. Other featured "voices" include Franklin Graham, Zig Ziglar, Ruth Bell Graham, and Kay Arthur. She's also the "gossip columnist" for Homecoming Magazine—and does she ever have some dirt to dish! Rather than a speaker, Sue prefers to call herself a cheerleader—and in that role has been sponsored by such groups as The Susan G. Koman Foundation, The American Cancer Society, Glaxo and Amgen Pharmaceuticals, Eli Lilly, Town Hall and other medical and civic groups. She is available for Christian women's conferences and spiritual retreats, with such topics as "A Party Begins in the Heart," "If I Can Write a Book, You Can Write a Book" and "I Don't Know Whether to Pray or Eat a Two-pound Box of Chocolates." Sue and her husband, Wayne, live in Nashville, Tennessee. They have two grown daughters, Dana and Melinda, a delightful son-in-law Barry, and a pampered fluffy gray cat who insisted his picture be included on her greeting cards.
