Judy Torres

On this unpredictable stage we call the music business, Judy Torres has retained her role as a recording artist. For 17 years she has entertained audiences nationwide and continues to perform regularly all over. Her conviction that singing is her life calling is consistently proven through her longevity in the music arena and the smiles on her fans' faces. It is because of that joy and passion for singing that she continues to practice, push, persist, perform and persevere.

Judy began singing in front of her parents at the age of three, and at ten, she wrote her first two songs and boldly attempted to introduce herself to a major record label, attempting to convince them that she was "a great singer in the glee club, with good grades." Although that label never responded, that same courage led her to meet her first manager, George Vascones, at the age of 17. She was discovered at "Sidestreet" in the Bronx, NY, during a Gong Show. Six months later, he introduced her to a producer, and released her first single, No Reason to Cry on Profile Records. Its success led to her second single, Come Into My Arms. Both records had their share of radio air play nationwide, including NY's own WKTU, making Billboard Dance Charts as well, where she received rave reviews. Her first album, Love Story" and her second album, MY Soul, were proven to be successful, and as a result she opened for such celebrities as Gladys Knight, Tito Puente, Lisa-Lisa, Menudo and actor, Robert Englund (aka Freddy Kruger". She also received network news coverage when Geraldo Rivera filled in as one of her back up dancers. Singles released from the albums include "Please Stay Tonight", "Love You Will You Love Me" "Love Story" and "I Love You For All Seasons." The single "I Love You For All Seasons," hit the airwaves and made its video debut on "The Box". In addition, Judy has also recorded several singles for such labels as Intersound Records, MicMac, Third Millenium and Critical. In 1997, she released the single "Back In Your Arms Again", which was a reply to the single "Come Into May Arms" and received airplay on WKTU as well.

Watching a performance by Judy Torres is comparable to in intimate evening of being out with a good friend: revealing secrets, and sharing experiences and exploring topics that are resounding to women. Judy's voice has been compared to Whitney Houston, Taylor Dane, Lisa-Lisa and Celine Dion, and her ability to connect with each and every member of her audience is a unique gift not experienced with other entertainers. Her voice also contains versatility as she can "metamorphasize" from Disco Diva to Pop Siren to Theater Belter and even to Operatic Soprano." Her courage to be honest and vulnerable on stage is what truly moves the hearts of everyone she entertains.

Judy talent has even introduced opportunities to perform in other areas of the entertainment industry. In 1997 she became a radio host on WKTU, where she has her own specialty Freestyle show every Sunday from 9pm to midnight and continues to be heard on that station to this day. In 1998 she was also part of the WKTU morning show, where she remained there for a year and a half. She has also tapped use of her talents in musical theater, making her off-Broadway debut in "After Hours" and was even called back for the Broadway hit RENT. She has also held the lead role of Queen in the musical, "The Life" in 1999. Recognizing Judy's accomplishment and talents, the Ashley Stewart Stores, a well-known national specialty retailer, selected Judy as one of her "Great Women of Style". It is an award given to women who "embody a sense of individual style and accomplishment, s sense of sisterhood, family and community." As a result she modeled for that retailer for about on e year. She has also appeared on Fox as a model for Hanes in 1998 and in 2003 appeared on Good Morning America as she modeled for an upcoming specialty designer. In 2003 Judy hosted an episode of Urban Latino, which is shown on the CBS network.

And although Judy performs regularly each week, she has found time to give back to her community as well. She believes that helping others is her way of showing appreciation for seeing her dreams come true. She has donated her time to Covenant House, Boys & Girls Club, and Promesa. Judy is a frequent guest speaker at local schools, where she addresses students about the importance of having a dream, having a healthy self-esteem and being a victor, not a victim.

Now in 2004, Judy has been recently signed to Robbins Entertainment, and is very happy to be working with Cory Robbins again. The first single, "The Air That I Breathe," also features Collage and was written by Judy and Collage. The song is about a couple destined to be together, soul mates. Unfortunately life calls her to heaven first and without him. She becomes an angel and sings to him to remind him that she's always there to love him, but he's unaware and is obviously distraught. Listening to the song proves Judy to be a songwriter and lyricist as well, as she attempts to touch on new and original topics.

Judy has survived trials and tribulations in and out of the music industry. She is very excited and ready to face the world head on with this new single. She thanks God and her fans always for being there throughout these 17 years. It doesn't matter what her destination is as she's happy to enjoy the journey. Judy is definitely still singing strong.
